I am a workplace consultant and training facilitator. As a consultant I meet businesses where they are at in their workplace mental health journey. I help them move to their next step using research-informed best practices, not fads. As a training facilitator, I enjoy visiting with participants, providing them new information, helping them solve problems they wish they had tools for. Please learn more about me or reach out!
Workplace consulting
You are experts at your business and getting things done but may wonder “What are we supposed to be doing about mental health?” Unfortunately the “mental health” marketplace is crowded with people recommending many things which may or may not be good investments. High quality research informs international workplace mental health guidelines and best practices. My consulting helps businesses apply those best practices to their local context. Rarely does an “off the shelf” solution work without customization and paying attention to important factors.
I can help combine my knowledge and your business expertise to help improve your workplace mental health. I subscribe to the integrated model of workplace mental health advocated by the World Health Organization and many others: prevent exposure to harmful workplace factors, help people thrive at work in the face of challenge, and help this affected by mental health problems stay at work or return to work. Where will we start? That depends where you are and where the biggest needs are. Let’s talk in a free consultation.
Education:
I provide pre-built and custom education for senior managers, line managers, employees, and HR/safety professionals that corresponds with best-practices outlined by international and Canadian research and standards and links with your existing curriculum and overall OHS and HR strategy. Topics I cover include:
- Mental health awareness.
- How to lead in a psychologically safe manner.
- How to recognize and assist employees who are struggling.
- Personal tools to help prevent burnout.
- Understanding and developing workplace mental health strategy for HR and Safety Professionals.
- Understanding & developing programs for workplace mental health.
It is important to note that education alone does not create a psychologically healthy workplace but is one component of a comprehensive strategy along with risk assessment & mitigation, continuous quality improvement, and supports for employees affected by poor mental health. In addition, education is not a “one and done” thing. People taking training need to be able to practice what they have learned and barriers to implementing education need to be addressed. If you choose education with me we will complete pre- and post-education consultation to maximize effectiveness.
